Psychotherapy in the Workplace Committee

Workplace matters have become a priority focus for UKCP. Attending to strategic issues and initiatives needed by UKCP, the committee will help to create an active and effective engagement with those bodies, organisations and aspects of community and society that involve our practitioners in workplace settings.

The committee is focusing on real-world considerations, addressing issues and concerns for employed and self-employed members working with adults, families, young people and /or children. The committee values the knowledge, experience and expertise of our members and hopes this will inform the effectiveness of the workgroups listed below.

PWC will develop partnership working with organisations that represent service users, in the longer term. We have chosen to start our work by identifying six areas in which groups of members and staff will work collaboratively. Committee members will coordinate each group.

We intend that some of the work will lead to PWC conferences and workshops that will help develop our proactive and concrete engagement with occupational and other workplace matters.

PWC workgroups

Workgroup 1: IAPT

Co-ordinator: David Pink

* This group will bring together a small number of people willing
to give their commitment to shaping UKCP's policy on IAPT. This work
will be done in collaboration with other committees and groups as
relevant.

Workgroup 2: New Government Initiatives

Co-ordinator to be confirmed

* This group will help the committee to hold the overview of
initiatives/issues of psychological support emerging from government
workplace developments, not covered elsewhere; it will keep abreast of
NICE matters (other than guidelines and evidence bases).

Workgroup 3: Private Practice

Co-ordinator: Shaun Brookhouse

* This group will focus on the private practice workplace. It will
look at the impact and implications of safeguarding legislation and
similar matters, including utilising information as relevant from other
groups in the committee and bringing private practitioner needs and
concerns to the attention of the committee through specific proposals.

Workgroup 4: NICE

Co-ordinator: Barbara Monk-Steel

* This group will focus specifically on guidelines, evidence bases
and modality representation in the workplace. It will liaise closely
with workgroups 1 and 2 and will liaise with the Research Faculty
Committee as needed.

Workgroup 5: Workplace Drafting

Co-ordinators: Peter Gregory and Alan McConnon

* This group will create template letters and draft statements
from UKCP to its members and designing those for UKCP to address
external concerns relating to workplace issues. This group will meet
virtually and will be deliberately held to a total of five participants
to ensure the practical work can be achieved. The group will collaborate
with other workgroups and committees as needed to inform their work and
will seek advice and examples from other committee workgroups and other
committees.

Workgroup 6: Careers and career pathways

Co-ordinator Carmen Joanne Ablack

* This group will look for input from the rest of the committee to
help inform its work. It will hold the career pathways work of UKCP in
collaboration with other committees. Work includes on-going
responsibility for the development of the project on professional
occupational standards and developing models of occupational engagement.
