The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) is recruiting Guideline Development Group (GDG) members for the Psychosis and Schizophrenia in adults (partial update) Guideline Development Group, which will update the Psychosis and Schizophrenia in adults clinical guideline and develop a national quality standard.

NICE is currently consulting on Self-harm: The short-term physical and psychological management and secondary prevention of self-harm in primary and secondary care.

We have decided to postpone the UKCP Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). The following message was sent to members and explains the reasons for the postponement.

UKCP has signed an online petition which expresses serious reservations about the proposed content of the future DSM-5.

Today is the launch of National Voices' Principles for Integrated Care.

The 12 Principles have been developed by the members of National Voices, the health and social care charity coalition. Based on the experiences of service users and on research evidence, they offer a way forward for professionals and government and a means of keeping patients' interests at the heart of care.

A Syrian psychoanalyst, Rafah Nached, has been imprisoned by the authorities since early September, apparently for conducting a seminar on fear. Psychoanalysts worldwide have protested at the abuse of human rights on the part of the Syrian government that this represents. UKCP wrote a letter to all the MEPs in the country, sent on 25 October 2011 in time for the debate on the matter in the European Parliament on 27 October 2011.

We are now opening the nomination process for the 2011 award of the UKCP Honorary Fellowship. This award indicates esteem and respect in which a person is held because of their contribution to furthering the values and ideals of the fields of psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic counselling and the organisation of the UKCP.

UKCP does not consider homosexuality or bisexuality, or transsexual and transgendered states to be pathologies, mental disorders or indicative of developmental arrest. These are not symptoms to be treated by psychotherapists, in the sense of attempting to change or remove them.

The Government is looking at the Equality Act and have asked people to comment on whether the Equality Act 2010 should be entirely scrapped. UKCP has responded and would encourage as many of you as possible to read our response and contribute your own.
