New Savoy Partnership quality of life survey

Jeremy Clark, chair of the New Savoy Partnership, is calling for participation in a quality of life survey. Here is his message:

Dear Colleague,

Can you spare us some of your time to let us know about your current state of wellbeing?

Please read this brief introduction and proceed to the survey. Please also pass this email on to any of your colleagues whom you think would like to inform the growing debate about measuring quality of life and subjective wellbeing.

DO CIRCULATE THIS AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE PLEASE TO YOUR NETWORKS

There are three things we want to find out from you.

Firstly, this year we are starting an annual 'DISTRESS CHECK' to discover the levels of wellbeing amongst those working in the field of Psychological Therapies, so that we can begin to chart how this changes over time.

Although the survey we are using is quite long, we feel it captures important aspects of subjective wellbeing, which is where we wish to stimulate thinking: how do we measure quality of life in a way that does justice to our emotions and relationships?

Second, we want to find out from yourselves - the experts - how you think wellbeing can best be measured or assessed - both for yourselves and for your clients/patients.

Third, we would like to know if you think the New Savoy Partnership should be offering - across the field of Psychological Therapies - a dedicated and independent website focused on developing wellbeing policy and practice.

Why do we think this is important?

For two main reasons:

  1. We believe Government should be working across all its welfare and public services to improve the quality of life for its citizens. It can only do this in a concerted way if we begin to measure subjective wellbeing and chart how this changes over time.
  2. We should begin this now as resources are likely to be tightened but efforts to reduced distress from many more clients seeking psychological help will still need to be increased if we are to fulfil the pledge in the New Savoy Declaration.

The survey is completely confidential and does not require you to enter your name or job title.

The results of the survey will be made available to you in the form of a free report that will be launched at the upcoming NSP Conference on 26 and 27 November and made available also on our website: www.newsavoypartnership.org

We would be very grateful if you could take the time now to complete our survey by clicking on this link http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e2ljws0ng0ks82ia/start and we look forward to continuing this discussion at the conference and beyond.

NB: The deadline for completing the survey is 9 November 2009.

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards

Jeremy Clarke
