Theoretical orientation MSc in Systemic Therapy Starting with a systemic family therapy foundation, drawing on the methods of the Milan Systemic/ Post- Milan approach, the course has been developed to include methods and understandings associated with social constructionism and postmodernism. The course includes learning how to work from this basis with families, couples and individuals and their significant networks. The therapeutic skills learned on the course also include brief solution-focussed methods, narrative approaches, and insights drawn from cognitive behaviour therapy. The ethical stance taken in the training is imbued with understandings and skills arising from appreciative inquiry. The course consists of four years part-time and is designed to fulfil the training standards of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK. Successful completion of the course is recognised through the award of an MSc by the University of Luton. The course is accredited as a qualification, by the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice, by the GLPQ for social workers, and the University of Luton. Successful conclusion of the training makes the graduate eligible for full registration by the UKCP and the European Certificate of Psychotherapy, and also for membership of the KCCF Register of Systemic Practitioners. The KCCF abides by the ethical codes of BACP, UKCP, and AFT. The Foundation has its own code of ethics which trainees and staff are obligated to observe in their clinical practice.
