Does UKCP run training courses? UKCP organises conferences and events for continuing professional development, and these are offered at a lower cost to members, students and trainee therapists. Click here for details of future conferences and events.
UKCP does not run courses leading to UKCP accreditation - these are provided by our organisational members.
Can I move training organisations midway through my course? This is not usually advisable as continuity is an important element to your training. However, in the event of special circumstances such as moving to another area, speak to your UKCP training organisation for assistance in transferring.
Some training organisations also accredit and will award Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) or give 'credit' for previous training experience.
I have a diploma in counselling and a degree in psychology, how do I go about training? You will need to identify the type of training you are most interested in. Once you have chosen a potential training organisation, you should talk to them about their Accreditation of Previous Experiential Learning (APEL) which could help reduce the time it takes to gain UKCP membership.
I have completed my training - how do I become a member? If you have completed an appropriate training course with a UKCP training organisation, they should automatically give you the option to apply for UKCP membership. You may also download an application form to send to your organisational member:
If you trained on a course that does not lead directly to membership, then you will need to seek accreditation by an accrediting Organisational Member. Click here for a list of UKCP Accrediting Organisations.
Please explain the UKCP accreditation and re-accreditation process. UKCP currently delegates the accreditation and re-accreditation of members to UKCP organisational members. At present there is no way of registering directly with UKCP. |
