Supervision, personal therapy and clinical practice

How much supervision, personal therapy and clinical practice do I need to become a member with the UKCP?
Although UKCP sets minimums for supervision, personal therapy and clinical hours before membership, some UKCP modality sections' training standards are higher than these and the final decision lies with the training organisation, which may ask for more. You should check with the training organisation(s) you are interested in joining.

Must my therapist or supervisor be UKCP registered?
Personal psychotherapy and supervision normally must be undergone with a UKCP-registered psychotherapist or equivalent. Your training organisation will be able to advise you further on this. Please note that your training organisation or the UKCP college it belongs to may have additional requirements in this area.

Where
can I find a supervisor?
UKCP does not hold a register of supervisors, but many of our organisational members do. Organisational Members are listed on this website or you can request a printed list by emailing  or phoning 020 7014 9955.

How many training patients must I have/for how long?
You will need a minimum of two years of practice under supervision and at least four weekly clients/patients to become a member with the UKCP. The number of client/patient hours required for your clinical qualification is determined by the training standards of the UKCP section which accredits your training organisation. Please enquire with your training organisation.
