ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY - PSYCHOANALYTIC & PSYCHODYNAMIC SECTIONHallam Institute of Psychotherapy HIP Organisational History The Institute was founded in 1989 from the Board of Supervisors to the Sheffield University Diploma Course in Psychotherapy and the Trustees of the Hallam Psychotherapy Trust. These parent organisations had been established in the mid-seventies. The aims of the Institute are to encourage and support the development of good psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy practice in the region. The Institute provides its members with a forum for ongoing professional development. Full membership of the Hallam Institute is by letter of application, with names of three referees and curriculum vitae followed by interview with two existing members. An applicant would normally be qualified to an equivalent standard to the four-year MA course, and able to fulfil any other requirements for the Hallam Institute of Psychotherapy. The Hallam Institute is an accrediting organisation within the PP Section, providing a route to registration. Trainee membership is available for trainees and General membership for those who have an interest in the psychoanalytic psychotherapies but would not otherwise be eligible for membership (non-accredited). Full membership of the Hallam Institute is made up of practising psychotherapists, and supervisors in the region. Own therapy Our members have undergone an appropriate training therapy. Clients Accredited members practice psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy with clients in private practice, within the Health Service, within the Voluntary Sector and in University settings. Their practice must be consistent with the flag statement of the Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Section of the UKCP. Theoretical studies There are training days, discussions and seminars from time to time; post-qualifying professional development is strongly encouraged. The Hallam Institute Code of Ethics and Practice must be adhered to by all members of the institute, and covers qualfications, terms, conditions and methods of practice, definitions of acceptable behaviour and good practice with regard to advertising and the media.
