UKCP governance and committee structure

On 5 December 2009, UKCP changed its structure. This article explains the reasons for the changes, how the new structure works and what it means for UKCP members.

Psychotherapy Council

The Psychotherapy Council is a deliberative, consultative and advisory body to the whole organisation including the Board of Trustees. It is a forum for debate on the future direction and strategy of the charity and consists of between 40-60 individuals.

Colleges

Colleges are collections of members - organisational and individual - who share a philosophy of psychotherapy. The college holds standards for education, training and practice that are both compatible with UKCP generic standards, and individual to the college's philosophy. Colleges are responsible for accepting members into full membership of UKCP and all existing members must belong to a college.

UKCP colleges are:

  • Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis (CPJA)
  • Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (HIPC)
  • Family, Couple and Systemic Therapy College (CFCST)
  • Sexual and Relationship College (SRC)
  • Hypno-psychotherapy College (H-P)
  • Constructivist College (CS)
  • Cognitive Psychotherapies College (CPC)
  • Psychotherapeutic Counselling College (PCC)
  • College for University Based Trainings (CUBT)

Faculties

Faculties are collections of members - organisational and individual - who share a mission congruent with UKCP aims. Faculties may develop and put forward standards of education and training to be adopted by colleges. Membership of faculties is open to all UKCP members.

UKCP faculties are:

  • Faculty for the Psychological Health of Children
  • Research Faculty

Special interest groups

Special interest groups are created freely by members for any purpose congruent with UKCP's mission and values. Special interest groups may apply for faculty status if they develop a mission.
