How to make the most of your Find a Therapist entry

Maximise your opportunities for being returned in a search result by entering as much information as you can in your profile.
Find a Therapist offers several ways of searching the UKCP directory. Of these, the more commonly used options are:
- geographical search (entering postcode or town)
This search uses your full post code and will return the nearest 100 therapists to the point entered. If you do not provide your full post code for a practice address, you will not be included in the results from the search and will not be displayed on the map. (See note about privacy and security below.)
- surname
- county or region - this search returns an unsorted list of all the therapists in a given county or region
- directory/register
Privacy and security
If you are concerned about privacy and/or security, you may choose to enter only a partial postcode. This will exclude you from geographical searches but will still allow individuals or employers to verify your registration and identify the region that you work in.
Using keywords
Keywords can be used to refine the Find a Therapist search.
- Surname
This should be entered as you wish it to be known. Remember that most potential clients would not know your name so the format is less important.
- Town/City
This is an important search field as it will most likely be the first thing a potential client searches for. Keeping in mind that as the search engine is based on keywords, it is advisable to be as specific as possible here. For example, if you live in West London but have neglected to include the word "West" in your details, then anyone searching for that word will be unable to find you. Or, similarly, if you live somewhere which is habitually referred to as being near somewhere else, for example "West Kington, near Chippenham" then it would make the search more productive to include this information.
- Keywords
This is a new search function, and is provided for clients to search keywords in the given list pertaining to their particular symptoms or areas of concern.
Please note that any changes you make will take 24 hours to appear live on your profile
