UKCP child psychotherapy and psychotherapy with children: standards of training and practice

These documents present a framework for the assessment of trainings in child psychotherapy offered under the auspices of UKCP.

UKCP and its Child Psychotherapy and Psychotherapy with Children Committee exist to uphold high levels of psychotherapy training across all modalities. These documents, therefore, do not indicate or prescribe specific details in many areas, and thus do not present training standards as such, but rather offer a set of learning outcomes that must be achieved. It is the task of the modality section or college and organisations offering trainings to specify precisely how those learning outcomes will be achieved in accordance with the particular parameters of their modality, through the presentation of training standards specific to that modality.

There are clear criteria and common requirements that must be met within any training. The means that are proposed for achieving those within a section's modality specific training standards or a training organisation's curriculum are subject to careful scrutiny by the CPPCC/UKCP and assessed to ensure they are in accordance with these guidelines.
