HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY SECTIONAwaken School of Outcome Oriented Psychotherapies Awaken House, 14 Roseberry Court, Stokesley TS9 5QT Organisational History Awaken School of Outcome Oriented Psychotherapies Ltd was founded in 2006, to take up the membership status of Centre Training International School of Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (CTISHP), itself a member of UKCP for over 10 years. Headed by Mark and Lisa Wake (formerly Chair and Vice Chair of UKCP), Awaken School aims to deliver the very best in training for students on the pathway to UKCP accredited status. In addition, Awaken School is seeking external validation of its training courses by a UK University so students who complete courses can gain credits towards an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Training Course Selection & Admission Awaken School offers students a variety of training courses including clinical hypnotherapy and neuro-linguistic psychotherapy to study on the pathway to accreditation and a number of options are available for their first 2 years of study. Since the courses are at post-graduate level, prospective students are expected to have a first degree or equivalent educational/professional qualifications or work/lifeexperience and references are sought. All prospective students are interviewed in advance of being offered a training place. the purpose of the interview is to ensure the student is aware of the programme they are seeking to attend, to evaluate their suitability and to answer any questions they may have in advance of the course. Training Course Requirements Personal therapy Personal development is ongoing throughout the programme and if any major issues occur, students are expected to seek external psychotherapy to deal with the issue. Personal psychotherapy is a core requirement for students seeking accreditation. Clinical/clients Students are usually ready to start seeing clients at the end of their first years training or when they are judged to be competent to do so. Supervision Students are required to be in ongoing clinical supervision when they start seeing clients. Supervision should be with a UKCP accredited psychotherapist at the rate of 1 hour supervision per 10 client hours. Written work On the training programmes, students will be given one or more summative assessments in the form of a written assignment and practical skills assessment. Attendance Students are expected to attend 100% of all classes. Special dispensation is available in the event of sickness or family problemsand students are expected to make up the time and learning missed. Training Course Assessments, standards, role of training committee The programmes available are modular and usually over 10 weekends of integrated learning and consist of a mixture of theory and practical exercises. There is one Formative Assessment via role-play in class to practice integration of competencies and one Summative Assessment with two components; the first is a practical skills assessment of a "live" case working with a peer. the second is a 3000-word essay demonstrating knowledge and critical understanding of the main theoretical components. Full details of the courses are outlined in a series of prospectuses available to download from the website.
Theoretical orientation Based around the outcome orientated psychotherapies of Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy and Solution Focussed Therapy, Awaken School aims to offer its students a flexible pathway to UKCP accreditation that fits with their interests and strengths. Students can choose between a range of courses for their first and second years of training before taking the compulsory research module and ongoing clinical practice in year 3 & the Advanced Patterns course in year 4. Accreditation, graduation, membership Students are continually assessed and guided throughout their journey and when they have completed all steps required to be accredited are awarded a postgraduate Diploma in Hypnotherapy & psychotherapy. Awaken School then presents them to the hypnopsychotherapy Section of UKCP for accreditation. Upon being accepted for inclusion on the UKCP register, students then join NHPC as their registering organisation.
