Organisational History

In 1987 a groups of supervisors who were developing training in supervision from a psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspective started an organisation called the Group for the Advancement of Therapy Supervision. As this grew the need for a more structured organisation was required and in September 1995 the members agreed to form the British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision.

Its purpose is to provide a body to register trained and qualified supervisors who fulfil the entry requirements and to provide a forum to develop thinking and understanding of the dynamics and process of supervision within psychoanalytic and psychodynamic work.
BAPPS runs conferences for members and non-members and runs other events as required and is actively involved in the development of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic supervision.
It provides a register of members who are qualified supervisors to those who are seeking a supervisor.

Selection & Admission

Selection, Admission and Membership of BAPPS depends on the applicant fulfilling the entry requirements, details of which can be obtained from the BAPPS Administrator. Consideration will also be given to supervisors with substantial professional experience for whom aspects of qualification differ from those stated in the Membership Criteria. A portfolio can be submitted demonstrating levels of experience in supervision practice, therapy practice, supervision of practises and previous trainings or apprenticeships.
