ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY - PSYCHOANALYTIC & PSYCHODYNAMIC SECTIONBritish Association of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision BAPPS Organisational History In 1987 a groups of supervisors who were developing training in supervision from a psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspective started an organisation called the Group for the Advancement of Therapy Supervision. As this grew the need for a more structured organisation was required and in September 1995 the members agreed to form the British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision. Its purpose is to provide a body to register trained and qualified supervisors who fulfil the entry requirements and to provide a forum to develop thinking and understanding of the dynamics and process of supervision within psychoanalytic and psychodynamic work. Selection & Admission Selection, Admission and Membership of BAPPS depends on the applicant fulfilling the entry requirements, details of which can be obtained from the BAPPS Administrator. Consideration will also be given to supervisors with substantial professional experience for whom aspects of qualification differ from those stated in the Membership Criteria. A portfolio can be submitted demonstrating levels of experience in supervision practice, therapy practice, supervision of practises and previous trainings or apprenticeships. Requirements Training Course Assessments, standards, role of training committee BAPPS has a Membership committee to consider applications for membership. It has and Ethics Committee and its own Code of Ethics and Complaints procedure for Supervisors. It also runs CPD workshops and an annual conference on Supervision. Theoretical orientation BAPPS is not a training body but an association of trained and qualified psychodynamic/psychoanalytic supervisors and therefore membership is restricted to:- Persons trained in psychotherapy by an organisation recognised by either the AP and PP Section of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy or by the British Psychoanalytic Council. Completed a qualifying paper of no less than 5000 words, with a separate supervisor's report stating that their supervision work is of a satisfactory standard. OR Persons not falling into the above categories who satisfy criteria approved by the management committee of BAPPS Where a course has provided theoretical input of not less than 45 hours but did not include supervision of supervision a satisfactory supervisor's report can be submitted. Accreditation, graduation, membership Suitably qualified applicants are accepted as Members and put on the BAPPS Register of Supervisors.
