The Psychotherapy Diploma is taught concurently with the MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, validated by Middlesex University. The Training is based on a humanistic and integrative approach. The trainings for these courses are all part time, with application deadlines each May for intake in September. Students must be in approved psychotherapy throughout the training. BCPC also provides a programme of Continuing Professional Development seminars, workshops and longer courses, open to students and graduates of other training organisations as well as its own members. Other BCPC projects include a grant-funded project providing free counselling and psychotherapy to refugees and asylum seekers. Training Course Selection & Admission External students are admitted to Foundation or, if appropriate, to the Counselling and Psychotherapy Diplomas via Access Courses. Humanistic theory informs our core values, and is based on the conviction that people are naturally healthy if given the right conditions. It emphasises the value of authentic experience and a real relationship between client and counsellor or psychotherapist. Psychoanalytic perspectives emphasise the ways in which childhood experience shapes each individual. Our integrative training incorporates both backgrounds to ensure a holistic understanding of the therapeutic process. Our courses are all part-time, and include a dynamic mix of experiential learning, group discussion and work with clients. We encourage an open and enquiring attitude in students. Training offers an opportunity for personal growth and this is enhanced by being in therapy whilst in training. Accreditation, graduation, membership Students successful in their final assessment are accredited, and become full graduate members of BCPC and BCPCA, our professional association. Members are then subject to re-accreditation every five years. The functions of BCPC and BCPCA are regulated by a number of committees made up chiefly of members. These include the board of Trustees of the training Charity, the Standards and Ethics Committee, the Training Committee and the Re-accreditation Committee. Graduate members have full voting rights at the BCPC and BCPCA annual general meetings. Code of ethics/ethical principals All BCPC members must adhere to our Statement of Ethical Principles, which represent the values and philosophy underpinning the codes of practice and training policies of BCPC. Members must also adhere to the our Codes of Practice, Equal Opportunities Statement, and Complaints and Grievances Procedures. For full details, please contact the office.
