How do I make a complaint or raise concerns?
Most UKCP-registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors belong to an organisation which is also a member of the UKCP. When making a complaint, the procedure used will depend on whether the the therapist belongs to one of these organisations or not. Please contact UKCP's professional conduct officer ( / tel: 020 7014 9971) to establish which organisational member they belong to. Your call will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
For complaints against those who belong to a UKCP organisational member:
- Contact the organisational member requesting a copy of their complaints procedure and codes of ethics, conduct and/or practice.
- You may be offered mediation to help resolve your complaint. If so the aim is to help you find an acceptable solution to the issues you have raised without going through a formal process. If you are not happy with the outcome of the mediation or decide not to invoke the mediation, the organisational member will give you details of their formal complaints procedures.
- If at the end of their formal process (including any right of appeal) you believe there were problems with the organisational member's procedures, or that the findings were unreasonable or unjust, you can appeal through UKCP's Central Final Appeal Procedure. If you wish to do this, contact UKCP's professional conduct officer ( / tel: 020 7014 9971) for further information.
