What regulates the practice of psychotherapy?

What regulates the practice of psychotherapy?
At the moment there is only voluntary regulation of psychotherapy. The UKCP was established in 1993 with the goal of persuading the Government to regulate the practice of psychotherapy.

UKCP believes in regulation when it is done well and we are working with the Health Professions Council to do our best to influence the scope of regulation.

Regulation is about ensuring safety of the public and is not directly concerned with the development of professions or individuals. We do, however, have concerns about the impact that the many interleaving government initiatives will have on the long term availability of diverse ways of working. One area of concern is the role of the Health Care Commission as the regulator of premises and organisational standards.
