CANDIDATES IN TRAINING

Benefits

Initially, it is planned to offer those joining the scheme the following benefits:

  • Being able to put "UKCP Candidate in Training" on their CV, promotional literature and correspondence.
  • Discounted rates at certain UKCP events such as the Professional Conference
  • Reduced price subscription to The Psychotherapist
  • Subsequently, further benefits may be developed including:
  • Reduced rate advertising in The Psychotherapist and possibly on the UKCP website
  • Chances for students to learn more about theoretical approaches other than the one they are studying
  • Allowing students to keep abreast of the 'bigger picture' re new developments in policy and practice, legislation, statutory regulation, NHS policy etc
  • Providing business/self employment skills e.g. time management advice etc.

Future Development

Eventually, there might be the possibility of a C.I.T. network which could help students learn more about theoretical approaches other than the one they are studying, new developments in policy and practice, keeping abreast of the bigger picture re. legislation, statutory regulation, NHS policy, business/self employment/time management advice, etc. It could also organise events, provide email and local support/interest groups, email newsletter, second hand book sales, etc.

Once the concept of a Student Network has been established and a reasonable number of C.I.T.'s recruited, consideration could also be given to having C.I.T. representation on the UKCP Standards Board, GB, and other committees.

Ultimately, the network could grow so that it organises its own events, provides email, creates local support/special interest groups, has its own e-newsletter, offers a second hand book service etc.

The Application Process

0. A prospective C.I.T. requests an Application Form either from the UKCP website or direct from their respective MO.

0. Prospective C.I.T. submits completed form to their MO which must propose them as a C.I.T. and verify this on the form by signing it and returning it to UKCP independently with official stamp/on headed paper, and full payment.

0. Once the form has been received and checked and full payment has been received, UKCP writes to the student informing them that they now have the right to use 'UKCP Candidate in Training'

0. Implicit in the marketing/promotional literature and clearly specified in the Application Form are specific terms and conditions. In applying for Candidate in Training status, the student must meet certain terms and conditions. The network will be supervised and appraised to ensure individual members behave responsibly and with due regard to UKCP values and principles.

0. The annual cost of being a member of this scheme is £35.
