West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy

TRAINING IN JUNGIAN ANALYTICAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

APPLICATION PERIOD OPENS ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 2016 FOR THE NEXT INTAKE COMMENCING IN OCTOBER 2017

This minimum four-year course includes personal Jungian analytical psychotherapy, lectures and seminars, supervised clinical work, infant observation, annual essays and psychiatric placement. Teaching is on Saturdays in Birmingham.

The training will bring together the development of personal insight, intensive and well-grounded academic study and practices of observation. The capacity to link insight, observation and theory is the kernel of good practice; its education is the purpose of this training.

The Training is in two stages:

1) Foundation Stage
This is the pre-clinical stage of the training and normally lasts one year, (but may, in exceptional circumstances, take trainees two years to complete).

It is possible to apply for the Foundation Stage programme as a free-standing Foundation Course. This is a pre-clinical course which may last one or two years. This is designed for those who are interested in exploring the theories of Jungian analytical psychotherapy in some depth but who do not wish to undertake the professional clinical programme.

On successful completion of this Foundation Course, candidates are awarded a Certificate of Achievement validated by the West Midland Institute of Psychotherapy. This is not a licence to practise psychotherapy, but it is a recognition of a candidate’s completion of a pre-clinical programme.

2) Clinical Stage
Once the Foundation Stage has been completed and its requirements successfully fulfilled, a trainee progresses to the Clinical Stage of the Training.  This comprises a further three years of the seminar programme.

Successful completion will lead to UKCP Registration (CPJA Section) and Professional Membership of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy.
