I Practice a Person Centred, and Integrative, Humanistic approach to Counselling. This largely means I am respectful, honest, and empathic. I do not make asumptions or judgments, and only make inteventions with clients if I think this will be of absolute benefit to them .
My basic philosophy in my approach to counselling is that all clients who chose to come into counselling are the expert on their own lives, and given the opportunity to feel heard, and understood will make sense of their own issues.
After practicing as a Registered Midwife for almost thirty years and later, becoming involved in Public Health, and the teaching Doctors and Midwives with appropriate ways of communicating, and making healthy interventions with pregnant women and their families, I became more interested in learning more about effective communication and therapeutic relationships. I went on to complete a three year Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling with The Northern Guild for Psychothery in 2010, and 2 years later completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I have been practicing as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor both in Private Practice, and in the NHS Primary Care and IAPT Services, for the last 12years. I am committed to building effective therapeutic relationships with clients who wish to enter Counselling, with a wide range of issues .
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
